PRIDE India runs a residential learning centre for children from the Katkari tribe in Mahad, where migration and poverty often disrupt education.
room 2nd to 10th std, so they can grow and learn without the fear of being displaced due to migration.
Children from Katkari often face challenges such as school dropout due to seasonal migration and poverty, risk of child labour, as children accompany parents for livelihood work. The parental illiteracy limits educational support at home, in addition to poor nutrition and health issues affecting daily life. As a result, they often encounter obstacles in education, such as insufficient academic guidance and mentoring, as well as limited access to secure residential learning environments, along with a lack of opportunities for overall development, such as life skills, sports, arts, and exposure and low transition rates to secondary and higher education
To address these challenges, Jeevanshala was established as a residential education support facility to provide children with an environment that maintains educational continuity by reducing school dropout due to seasonal migration, and to protect them from child labour by ensuring they remain in a safe learning environment. The centre provides a safe and stable environment where children can continue their schooling without interruption. Alongside academics, children receive nutrition, healthcare, and opportunities for overall development, including sports, arts, and life skills.
This helps reduce school dropout, protect children from child labour, and support their long-term educational journey.
